Of course, there are a number of hotels near the Miami cruise port. Hotels closest to the port usually offer higher-end accommodations due to being near trendy downtown and also usually have nicer atmosphere. You can also try staying in South Beach, with its famous art-deco hotels. It’s only about minutes from the port and offers lots to see and do before a cruise.

Staying in Miami overnight

The currency accepted in Miami is the U.S. dollar, and you’ll be able to find ATMs dispensing U.S. dollars all over the city. Tipping is very common and expected in Miami, especially in restaurants, bars, and taxis. A common tip for restaurants, taxis, and most other services is 15% to 20% of the total amount. Beach bars intermingle with nightclubs, and the laidback lifestyle mixed with the ritzy nightclubs that attract the rich and famous from all around the world create an interesting dichotomy. Walk around Puerto Plata’s bustling Malecón boardwalk, which is full of restaurants, bars, and friendly street vendors.

Recognized globally as the "Cruise Capital of the World" PortMiami is the world's leading cruise port. Global Gateway of the Americas located at the cross-roads of north-south and east-west trade lanes and linking the world markets with the United States. Cruise Terminal A – the Crown of Miami –  was built specifically for Royal Caribbean in 2018, enabling it to handle Royal’s largest ships with the latest technology for an expedited check-in process. Click here to finding pricing and locations closest to the PortMiami Cruise Terminal. PortMiami is situated on Biscayne Bay and supports 335,000 direct and indirect jobs. Sailing out of Miami is a rite of passage, and the sailaway is truly one of the most beautiful in the world. As your ship sets off, timed with the setting sun, the city's high-rises and golden beaches glisten as they bid you bon voyage. Miami is the ideal place from which to set sail to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexico and beyond. More than 20 cruise lines sail from PortMiami, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a ship and itinerary that works for you. On November 28, 2018, Richard Branson (Virgin Group's Founder) and Tom McAlpin (Virgin Voyages' President and CEO) officially announced the plans for a new/exclusive cruise terminal in PortMiami.

It will be on the south side of the port, east of Terminal J, and will be homeport to Disney Cruise Line’s larger vessels carrying over 3,500 passengers. Designed to accommodate smaller boutique vessels and more exclusive luxury cruise ships, Terminal J is operated by Oceania and Regent Seven Seas. The estimated cost of the renovations is $170 million and completion is scheduled for October 2022. This will be Carnival’s third and largest Miami cruise terminal and its proposed opening will mark Carnival’s 50th anniversary. Terminal B is in the final stages of completion at a cost of $239 million with expected completion in 2021.

An Uber or Lyft is mostly the cheapest way to get to your departure terminal. South of downtown, and connected to the city and airport via the MertoRail system, is Coconut Grove. This upscale area includes an outdoor mall, plenty of restaurants, bars and nightlife, plus a good selection of mid-range hotels. Coconut Grove is a trendy, but comfortable spot to spend some time. With beautiful beaches, Art Deco architecture, high end shopping, fine dining, and nightclubs, there is never a dull moment day or night. South Pointe Park is also a great place to view the cruise ships sailing away.

It basically means you use a very simple smartphone app to request a ride, and your driver uses his/her personal vehicle. These are great hassle-free options to get to your cruise terminal and are often more comfortable than a cab. Welcome to Terminal C, Miami’s most prestigious and technologically advanced cruise terminal.

PortMiami Cruise Terminal Information

It will have a dedicated waiting lounge, bar lounge, service area and dedicated parking garage with optional valet service. On May 24, 2010, construction began on the Miami Port Tunnel, a $1 billion project providing a much-needed direct connection from the port to I-395. Prior to the tunnel's completion, the only way to enter and exit the port was via surface streets through downtown Miami.

Most recently updated in 2018, Terminal E also exclusively serves Carnival Cruise Lines. New improvements meet the silver standard for eco-efficiency and green practices and include new boarding bridges directly onto the ship. This terminal meets LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification standards for green ratings at a total investment cost of $7 million.

In the Design District, Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, Sugarcane Raw Bar and Grill, and Ghee Indian Kitchen are among the local favorites. The Downtown and Brickell neighborhoods of Miami offer plenty of hotel choices. Some popular options include Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay, Intercontinental Miami, and Kimpton Epic Hotel. Our personal favorite is East Miami located in the Brickell neighborhood. The Port does not own or operate any off-site parking facilities. Though, independent off-site parking lots can be a much cheaper option.

The trolley drops off at the port every 15 to 20 minutes from early until mid-evening all days except Sunday. All parking locations accept cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and major U.S. All garages and Lot 2 offer day parking and short-term parking. A family of four taking the Carnival transfer from the Miami airport would pay more than $180 round trip, despite the trip only taking about minutes each way. It’s not hard to find places to shop in Miami, but if there’s a particular type of shop you’re after, certain areas of the city are best.

The new terminal generates at least 1,8 million cruisers (or ~30% of the projected traffic) with estimated economic impact ~USD 0,5 billion. The project's value was estimated at USD 247 million for PortMiami - after taking into consideration up-front costs and annual rent for current cargo shipping purposes. For comparison, the Port's annual revenues are US$1,2M (from cargo activities) and US$9,5M (from cruise shipping). PortMiami's MSC terminals AA and AAA can serve 2 turnarounds/homeported ships simultaneously and have max capacity passengers daily. Port Miami has been the "Cruise Capital of the World" and also "Cargo Gateway of the Americas" for many years. It kept that title for more than two decades and accommodated world's biggest cruise ships of all major passenger shipping companies.
